A group pauses to consider the 23rd and Federal intersection
A beautiful Saturday morning dawned in early April and with it came many business representatives and local residents to the Adams Mystery Playhouse to vision and design the future of Federal Boulevard and W. 25th Avenue. Organizing into two groups, each group toured two block areas and sat down to discuss aspirations and attitudes around building scale, possible uses and streetscape designs.
A comprehensive list of ideas and concepts developed during the workshop will be illustrated and released for comment May 25 at a public meeting 6:30 PM at the Adams Mystery Playhouse. A sampling of design concepts include:
- Use of streetscape design and furniture to unify commercial and residential interests along W. 25th and Federal between 23rd and 26th Avenues.
- Delineate pedestrian walk areas at intersections including walkways through the center median by the usage of different paving textures, materials and architectural structures. Read the rest of this entry »

A slice of the crowd at the Partnership's Candidates Night Out forum
Wednesday evening March 16th at the Partnership’s annual spring meeting titled “Candidates Night Out”, Council District One voters got a first look at mayoral and council candidates. The Partnership video taped each candidate, find links below.
The City Council District One race is newly energized. Two weeks before on March 2nd, Councilwoman Paula Sandoval had announced her intention not to run for reelection during spring municipal elections. Within a week, five new candidates had successfully petitioned on the ballot and the race was on! Six council candidates addressed the large crowd in attendance, introducing themselves providing their positions and approaches to district and Federal Boulevard issues. Candidates included (with video link), Larry Ambrose, Katherine Cornwell, John Haney, Ken Padilla, Susan Shepherd and Jeffrey Schitter. Unlike last year’s special election to replace the Council vacancy left by Rick Garcia, this race requires a runoff if no candidates receives 50% of the vote May 3rd – a sure bet with seven candidates on the ballot.
Also at the meeting, mayoral candidates addressed the crowd. Mayoral candidates with video links included Thomas Wolf, Theresa Spahn, Carol Boigon, James Mejia, Doug Linkhart and Michael Hancock.

One of the subgroup discussions of issues and opportunities at the kickoff meeting February 24
Saturday, April 2nd, 9:00 in the morning at the Adams Mystery Playhouse, residents and business owners will have an opportunity to develop conceptual streetscape designs with a list of preferred uses for a pilot section of Federal Boulevard. In February, nearly one hundred people attended the project kick-off meeting. During the meeting, participants brainstormed a list of existing “issues and opportunities” in the streetscape pilot area, roughly bounded by Federal from W. 23rd to 26th, and W. 25th between Federal to Eliot. The Partnership’s annual spring meeting Wednesday, March 16th will host candidates of an energized City Council District One race as well as Mayoral hopefuls. Most Mayoral candidates have confirmed attendance. Come enjoy refreshments; beer, wine and finger foods while grilling and listening to candidates speak to issues important to Federal, the district and city.
The big recent news is the decision by Councilwoman Paula Sandoval to step down from her position and not run for reelection this spring in Council District One. As such, the Council race has been thrown into a whirlwind! Since petitions to get on the ballot were due in a week, new candidates scrambled to get out to voters and six ended up making the ballot.
During the Partnership public meeting at the Adams Mystery Playhouse, mayoral and council candidates will mingle with attendees during the 30 minute “social” beginning at 6:00 PM. Beware, hopefully no one will meet with an untimely end! At 6:30 after initial welcoming remarks and introductions, mayoral candidates will be given three minutes to discuss their candidacies and answer a question about Federal Boulevard. After, council candidates will be given the same opportunity. The meeting will end with several presentations of current Partnership plans and activities during 2011.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to be informed about the candidates and issues important in the upcoming election!
