2012 Partnership Work Priorities – November 22, 2011
Following are the work priorities agreed to by those in attendance during the 2012 Federal Boulevard Partnership board planning session conducted Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Included with each priority are the names of people who signed up to assist with the activity.
Participants in the planning session included: Carole Vowell, Cindy Snalam, Jerry Guida, Marshall Vanderburg, Linda MacIntyre, Brenda Vasquez, Brooke Bailey, Laurie King, Andy Gorchov, and Bill Johnston.
The planning session began with introductions and discussion of possibly moving the monthly board meeting dates for 2012. It was agreed to move the board meeting date from the third Tuesday of each month to the fourth Tuesday of each month. However, in looking at the Tuesday dates in January, it was determined the fourth Tuesday would not work. The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 6:00 PM, January 17 at the Stadium District boardroom. Confirming future 2012 board meeting dates will be discussed at the January board meeting.
The status of 2011 projects were reviewed and discussed. From the discussion, several new possible 2012 projects were brainstormed. Voting was conducted (four votes per person) on the project list. It should be noted just because a project received few or no votes, doesn’t translate to the project not being pursued in 2012. It only means that time and resources if “short”, should be allocated to higher prioritized projects. Board member leads and membership teams for each project was determined.
Board members not in attendance for the planning session should review the project list and contact project leads of their interest to serve with a project team. Email correspondence should be copied to Marshall. Several “assignments” of board members not in attendance were made but this was kept to a minimum. Leads are responsible to define the “how and when” of their projects and report back to the board at the January board meeting.
The January board meeting will also include an election of officers.
In ranked order, the 2012 work priorities include:
1. Business Improvement District; Marshall lead – Jerry, Linda and Carole members
Due to the immediacy of the recently received Denver grant of $61,600 to pursue BID application and creation, the group decided to meet November 29, 6:00 PM at Marshall’s house (2043 Grove, pizza provided) to affirm the job position announcement and recruitment process.
2. Better Block Project; Brooke Bailey lead – Brenda, Cindy and Marshall members
A community project to “better a commercial street in a day”, for W. 25th Ave between Eliot and Federal. A kickoff meeting had been convened November 7 and the next meeting is scheduled December 6, 6:00 PM at the Yoga Studio on the corner of W. 25th and Eliot.
3. Social, Fundraising and Union Station; Cindy lead – Laurie, Carole, Anne and Marshall members
There are several activities wrapped into this effort but at its essence is convening several “social gathering” activities where one activity involves a tour of Union Station conducted by our RTD Board Director (already offered), and also where the “socials” involve raising funds and awareness for a nonprofit in the Boulevard corridor community.
4. Denver Livability Partnership; Bill and Andy co-leads – Linda, Brooke and Marshall members
Effort involves city of Denver lead activities around the new Federal Decatur light rail station and the west corridor line. Projects include the Station Area and General Development planning efforts, Westside Enhanced Bus Service Feasibility study, and the Federal/Colfax Infill study.
5. Federal Parkway Setback; Marshall lead – Bill, Jerry, Brenda and Brooke members
Continued discussions with Denver Parks and Recreation about parkway setback requirements north of W. 20th Avenue.
6. Federal Corridor Master Map Development; Laurie and Linda co-leads – Carole member
The effort involves the development of a Federal corridor master map containing parcels, projects, etc. The full scope and methods are to be determined. The BID project will be producing a map of the proposed district, possibly this effort could be leveraged more broadly to support a corridor map.
7. Bus Service; Cindy lead – no members at the moment
The effort continues work conducted by Cindy exploring possibilities for a downtown route for the 31 Federal RTD bus.
8. Newsletter/Web/Facebook/Board List/Communications Plan; Linda lead – Marshall, Cindy and Brooke members (Cindy and Brooke interested in helping proof)
9. Special Tax District Creation; Marshall lead – Kathy, Jerry and “?” (couldn’t read the name, maybe Brenda?!) members
Lobby for the creation of a special tax district (Urban Renewal District most probably) for Federal, south of W. 20th.
10. Federal Boulevard Reconstruction project (5th to Holden Pl); Kathy lead – Linda, Bill and Marshall members
This would be an effort only if Denver receives a TIGER grant award in early 2012. If Denver does not receive an award, the project will not be constructed in 2012.
Projects not receiving votes include: Federal Boulevard Corridor Plan advocacy, COP Shop at Veterans Housing project at 27th and Federal, and Financial and Membership activities.
