Beautification, Safety, Pride and Transportation meeting minutes from August, 2010 at Masonic Temple, 35th and Federal. In attendance: Bill J., Amanda & Zac N., Stephen K., Cindy S., Carole V.
Invesco traffic signs and cones: Carole reported that discussion continues with Invesco Field of the placement and storage of traffic signs and orange cones in between games. Neighbors have complained to the council office about this as it creates a negative appearance and confuses the weekday driver when the signs remain along the streets and street corners.
Condition Survey: Cindy will draft a letter to the city in regards to the final results of the condition survey. It will indicate why we are writing it and what we want the city to do. It will go through the board first for review. Bill made the final revisions and transposed the average ratings to Good = 3; Fair = 2 and Poor = 1. Since sidewalks are a city-wide issue, Bill recommends that Cindy first finds the city’s pedestrian master plan to see how we should address improvement recommendations. It could be found on the Public Works home site. She could speak with Ms. Record in Public Works and ask if, how and when the city is addressing sidewalk issues. Since the meeting Cindy has spoken with an inspector from the Public Works Engineering Department who has provided some helpful information that will be discussed at the September meeting. The sidewalks are one of 12 conditions addressed in the Conditions Survey.
The Streetscape Survey is different and will be used to design a streetscape guide for when a developer comes along, so we know the impact it has on the city. It includes sidewalks, tree lawn (between the curb and sidewalk), curb, landscape and raised mediums. As indicated in the city’s Living Streets Initiative, streetscape has expanded to include businesses. The new Streetscape Committee, headed by FBP President Marshall Vandenburg, will be applying the results of this Streetscape Survey in their activities.
Bus routes: Cindy reported that the North-South bus routes starts in August, from the city limits to Evans Park & Ride.
Future Public Events: The committee discussed ideas for a 2011 Arts & Cultural event along Federal Blvd. or an event that would bring people to walk along Federal. Some ideas were:
Bus Hop – work with RTD and local businesses on this
Solar-powered holiday lighting and luminaries
Concert or the symphony in Jefferson Park or the new Woodbury Library Park
Summer movies in Jefferson Park or the new Woodbury Library Park
Treasure Hunt with businesses
Point of Interest Tour with cell phone guides and kiosks for storytelling
